A Moderate Amount of February

Reviews, Previews, and slightly more.

So February was a bit of a crazy month for me, with a lot of review deadlines bumping up against each other. I wrote a few things, my daily schedule completely fell apart, and I honestly had a bad time! Despite that, I think quite a lot of my work came out, so let’s review.

  • My review for Tails: The Backbone Preludes that I finished last month came out.

  • I previewed some Steam Next Fest demos, namely Spiritfall, Phantom Brigade, which I’m working on a full review of, Ravenbound, and Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara. I didn’t play any truly terrible demos this time around, though I remain skeptical of some of the finished games.

  • I wrote my first News post about a funny video mashing up The Office and Mass Effect. Is it news? Not really, but it goes under the news heading.

  • I wrote an article about the controversy surrounding JK Rowling and Hogwarts Legacy. It was a very dense subject and I did my best to cover it.

  • I wrote about the controversy around Atomic Hearts, which seems to have quickly given way to the fact the game isn’t well liked.

  • I reviewed Clive ‘N’ Wrench, which was a tough one. The game isn’t boring, but it also wasn’t polished or quite good enough for me to recommend, which is sad because it was in development by a solo developer for 10 years. It’s awkward when a game is made by a single person because anything you say is bad about the game reflects directly on that person’s work.

  • I reviewed Scars Above, and it was just so medicore. I enjoyed bits and pieces of the game, but only a little. If I hadn’t been paid to finish the game I would have stopped quite early on, and I don’t think I would have missed out on much, but the game’s not bad per se. It’s just fine, which is unfortunate.

  • I finished one other review which seems like it’ll come out on March first. This happened last month too.

I intended to write more SEO and News stuff, but poor mental health wiped out a lot of that. Even so, this is a good amount of work, and since the exchange rate with the US has dipped so much I’ll get paid a little extra. I’m not complaining.

Things were more dire on my personal projects, but I have a feeling next month will be better. The first half of the month was terrible for my mental health, so I should have more useful time next month if things don’t go downhill again.

I wrote Youtube video scripts, researched for Youtube scripts, and did some editing and filming for a video that should be out next month. Next month I’d like to actually finish more Youtube videos, and add back my novel writing and game dev to my schedule.

It was also my birthday this month! I’m now 28, which is interesting. I definitely need to exercise to stay fit now, while just a handful of years ago I was essentially fine without. Being older comes with far too many aches and pains, but means I’m still around to do all the things I enjoy doing. I’m glad to be here.

That’s it for February 2023. Still a lot of the year left to get stuff done! Good luck to you all (and to me).
