January's Done

What happened to January?

Woo 2023. We've now had a full month of it and that month has been... Fine. It's been somewhat of a slow start to the year for me, but here's what happened.

  • I reviewed Mahokenshi, which other than being very short, was good fun. I'm glad the game didn't overstay its welcome, but it felt like it did the opposite instead.

  • I reviewed Season: A letter to the future which was incredibly sad but meaningful. I feel like I could write a lot about the way it discusses loss, but other writers will probably cover that same ground. I think the game's central idea is about what we choose to remember, and how we choose to forget. Maybe I will write something about it, who knows?

  • I reviewed Tails: The Backbone Preludes, which will release in early February, which means I have to invoice it for next month. A link to the review will be included in next month's roundup.

  • I wrote a list of the Best and most anticipated Early Access games in 2023. It was quite fun to go through huge lists of games and pick out things I already liked or that I encountered and looked worthwhile, and then get paid for it. The only tricky part was that many of the games aren't released yet, so I have no way of knowing if I picked something that will turn out to be terrible.

  • I wrote about trying out Sailing Era and bouncing off its burdensome menus. Seriously, you almost spend more time clicking through menus than sailing.

  • I wrote a few guides for The Escapist which can be found here.

  • I wrote some scripts for Youtube videos but didn't actually release anything. Whoops!

This has been a rather slow start to the year overall, partially due to health issues continuing from last year. That said, at the end of the month I feel things are stabilising, and I've finally got some work done on my novel.

Next month I'll be trying to carry that small amount of momentum on my novel, and film some Youtube videos. It'll also be my birthday, so I'll take a day or two off for that. See you in March!
