New Bytesized!
In fact, a few of them.
Hey all! The Newsletter is switching to only being released when I have something to announce. That said, I also forgot to release a newsletter last time I had something to announce, so here’s a catchup post.
My first Bytesized came out, about how Kingsvein’s dead golem bodies make for fun gameplay
My second Bytesized, about how Unicorn Overlord’s story devalued its interesting strategy gameplay, was released
The Bytesized format changed to reviews instead of opinion pieces, so I reviewed the makeover of Multiversus, which… just isn’t very good.
I was in 2 videos where a whole bunch of Second Wind writers played demos from Steam Next Fest - here’s the first, and the second
Second Wind celebrated 6 months with a stream I was briefly on near the beginning of.
Overall, there was plenty to write about. But as you can see, basically one Second Wind-related thing happened each month, which both wasn’t very satisfying to write about and has meant I’m not getting nearly as much work as I had hoped.
I’ve also made limited progress on my personal projects. While I have written some Youtube scripts and worked on some other projects, I’ve still been chasing doctor’s appointments as health problems have made it hard to make much progress.
I cancelled a Youtube video that I had a completed script for, because after rewriting it a few times, I realised it just wouldn’t be very interesting. I was trying to force something out as quickly as possible, but I have been trying to instead aim for quality, since that’s what seemed to resonate about my last Youtube video.
We’re over halfway through the year, and I have very little to show for it. Three Bytesizeds in half a year compared to 15-ish 3MRs isn’t good. It is possible I’ll get more Second Wind work, but it seems unlikely that I’ll suddenly get five times as much. Second Wind does pay a lot better, but it doesn’t make up for that discrepancy, and I need to get things moving again on my personal projects to try and pick up the slack.
But of course, I’m sick, and working on personal projects is extremely difficult and slow because most of the time I can’t work or do much of anything. So we are where we are.
I don’t intend to get discouraged and give up, but simultaneously I can’t promise that I’ll have a tonne of news at the beginning of next month. So, the next newsletter will come when I have something to share, possibly later this month when I review a game for Bytesized, or in the middle of next month when I hope to finally release a personal Youtube video. Regardless, I’ll make sure Emails aren’t too frequent.
Finally, I’ve only briefly mentioned this in the newsletter, but I’ve been learning to create games. Here’s a silly bug I posted on twitter.
I'm mostly on Bluesky nowadays but since bluesky doesn't have video, here, have this bug. The blobs are meant to be looking at the blue capsule, and instead they... did that.
