June is too cold for reviews

System Shock, Mushrooms, and Aliens abound.

June was a rather average month for me. I spent the first half of it with a cold, then had to deal with excessive tiredness that had me sleeping most of the day. Despite that, here’s what I released this month:

  • My review of System Shock from last month was released. This game was quite frustrating, as I got lost a tonne and had to use a guide to find my way. Then people in the comments claimed it was easy to not get lost! I enjoyed the game, but it had some highs and lows.

  • I reviewed Smushi Come Home, in which you play as a little mushroom trying to find its way home. Of course, the mushroom has legs and arms and can talk, like most mushrooms. I had a fun few hours jumping around the game’s world, and it was a very cute game.

  • I wrote an article about the sense of curiosity that drives Tears of the Kingdom. I think I could have been a little clearer in my writing here, but it’s a good little piece.

  • Aliens: Dark Descent rubbed me the wrong way initially, but I ended up reviewing it quite well. I struggled to encompass all my thoughts in the review; I probably should have mentioned that the game’s a bit slow paced and repetitive, but that it didn’t bother me because the game was just the right length to not outstay its welcome. Overall though, I enjoyed the strategy gameplay.

I predicted in the last newsletter that I might be able to do more this month, and that wasn’t correct. Still, I did my best to rest when I needed to, recovered from my cold, and still got some stuff done. Sometimes you have to be kind to yourself and accept that not every month will be the most productive one ever.

That said, I’d love for July to be a more productive month, even if not all of it will be work that can be seen upfront. I’m redoing some parts of my Youtube filming setup, redoing some of the scripts I had for videos, and trying, as usual, to get my schedule under better control. I also hope I’m not going to get sick again! I have so many things I’d like to work on, and I hope I can do some of it at least.

I’m gonna do my best for July, and I’ll see you again at the start of August.
